Our story
T E R R R O I R
Established in the heart of the great Marne Valley since the 17th century, at the René GEOFFROY Champagne House the terroir we have placed at the centre of our activity. In our House, men learn and build with the terroir, humbly, through perseverance and daily work. The search for harmony with nature is guided by our philosophy of respect for life, for the environment and above all for the future generations who will live on this planet. It is expressed through our “integrated pest control” approach to vine growing, a method based essentially on observation, in order to avoid all chemical weedkillers.
To preserve and strengthen the life of the soil and to encourage our vines to send their roots as deep as possible to draw their nutrients, our vine-growing techniques are natural: ploughing, using wild plants as ground cover, organic fertilisers…
In this way, bursting with life, the grapes can bring the soul of the terroir to the heart of the wine. The Champagnes of the Geoffroy Champagne House are the fruit of these subtle interactions between the soil, the grape varieties, the northern climate of the Champagne region, the exposure of each plot to the sun and the work of many generations.
Like a musician composing a score, Jean-Baptiste Geoffroy worked alongside nature to compose and create a range of unique Champagnes, from the chalky soil right through to the bottles bearing the Geoffroy label, We invite you to discover these works of art, and to follow the desires of your palate for your greater pleasure.

The same spirit of respect for life, of patience, of attention to detail, the same objective of purity underlies all our cellar work.
First, the grapes from the three Champagne varieties, Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, are slowly crushed in the House’s own traditional press.
Then, Jean-Baptiste GEOFFROY vinifies the juice from each plot of vines separately. By separating the wines from different plots at this stage, the specificities of each Terroir can be exploited to the full. This provides the wine-maker with a multitude of choices during blending, to create wines of unique authenticity and character. And the use of oak barrels, which let the wine live, brings out aromas that are both subtle and complex.
Constantly motivated by the desire to preserve the best of what Nature offers us, Jean-Baptiste GEOFFROY, like all his forebears, avoids malolactic fermentation, so that the champagne keeps all its original freshness. In so doing he is prepared to take certain risks, choosing to affirm the natural difference of his Champagnes.
